Holm — Before You Install
=========================

Thanks for trying Holm! It safely copies photos and videos from your
camera cards onto your hard drives, organised by date and camera, with a
verified backup copy. It never deletes anything from a card until a checksummed
copy exists on your drive.

1. INSTALL
----------
Drag "Holm.app" into your Applications folder (optional but tidy).

2. FIRST LAUNCH — IMPORTANT
---------------------------
This app isn't from the Mac App Store, so macOS will block it the first time
with a message like "Holm can't be opened because Apple cannot check it
for malicious software." That's expected for a shared app — here's how to open
it:

   • Right-click (or Control-click) Holm.app
   • Choose "Open"
   • Click "Open" again in the dialog

You only need to do this once. After that it opens normally.

(If macOS still won't open it: System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security, scroll
down, and click "Open Anyway" next to the Holm message.)

3. GETTING STARTED
------------------
   • Holm lives in your menu bar (top-right) and as a window.
   • Add a "Library" — a folder on the drive where your photos should live.
   • Add a second drive as a backup whenever you can (a single drive can fail).
   • Insert a camera card; Holm detects it and offers to import.

A couple of macOS permission steps (normal — it's a privacy thing):
   • When you add a library drive, macOS asks you to confirm the folder. Just
pick it; Holm remembers it after that.
   • The first time you import from a memory card, you'll see "Grant Access to
This Card…" — click it and select the card. It's remembered next time.
   • If you used an earlier version of Holm, re-add your library folders
once (the new version asks permission per folder).

Your originals are always verified with a checksum before anything is deleted,
so your media is safe.

4. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
----------------------
   • macOS 14 (Sonoma) or newer.
